Dental Implants at All Smiles by Design

Hello, I'm Dr. Terry Tran from All Smiles by Design. We get a lot of questions about dental implants. I'm here to answer some of the most common questions that people have.

Dr. Terry Tran

Have you ever considered getting dental implants? If you're missing one or more teeth, then you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Unlike traditional dentures, which can slip and cause discomfort, dental implants are implanted into the jawbone and provide a secure and natural-looking option for tooth replacement.

What many people don't know is that implants can also help preserve the health of the jawbone. When a tooth is lost, the bone around the tooth begins to break down. Over time, this can lead to significant changes in the shape of the face, as well as an increased risk of gum disease and other problems. Dental implants are placed in the jawbone, providing a firm foundation for a replacement tooth.

In addition, implants stimulate the bone, helping to prevent loss and preserving the healthy shape of the jaw. For these reasons, implants are an excellent option for anyone missing one or more teeth.

Here at All Smiles by Design, we offer high-quality dental implants in Henderson that can give you back your smile with confidence. Contact us today to learn more about this life-changing procedure.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is essentially an artificial root placed in the jawbone. It's made of biocompatible materials similar to those used in artificial joints. After placement, it integrates with the jawbone. Typically, it takes about four to six months for your natural bone cells to grow around the threads of the implant. Once integrated, it is strong enough to be restored with a crown, a bridge, or a prosthesis.

Dental implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth, offering a natural look and feel. They consist of three components:

  1. The Implant: A titanium post surgically placed in the jawbone.
  2. The Abutment: A connector piece that secures the crown.
  3. The Crown: A lifelike replacement tooth.

The titanium post integrates with your bone, providing a durable and stable foundation. Using the same surgical-grade titanium found in hip and knee replacements, dental implants are built to last and restore both function and appearance.

We usually recommend a dental implant if you're missing a tooth, whether due to trauma or decay. Dental implants are the standard of care in these cases and are our first recommendation to patients. One advantage of a dental implant is that you don't have to prepare the teeth in front of and behind the missing space. This is usually required for a bridge, but with a dental implant, we just place the implant where the tooth is missing, and from there, we can grow you a tooth.

Why Choose Guided Implants?

At All Smiles by Design, we use advanced guided implant technology to ensure precision, safety, and efficiency. Here's how it works:

  1. 3D Scanning: We take a detailed digital scan of your mouth to assess your eligibility for implants.
  2. Digital Design: Implants are custom-designed to fit seamlessly into your mouth.
  3. 3D-Printed Guide: A guide is created to guarantee perfect placement during the procedure.

This process eliminates guesswork, minimizes risks, and ensures a faster, more predictable outcome. With guided implants, we avoid sensitive areas like nerves and sinuses, providing a safer and more comfortable experience.

The Implant Process: What to Expect

The process of placing a dental implant starts with a thorough exam and radiographs. We need to determine whether you have enough bone in the area or if additional bone is needed to place the most suitable implant for you. After the exam, we conduct a digital scan, which is then merged with your radiographs. I use software to plan your implants, determining the length and width of the implant, and we create a surgical guide from that.

  1. Consultation and 3D Mapping: We evaluate your mouth and jaw to confirm suitability.
  2. Custom Planning: Using 3D imaging, we design the perfect implant placement. After reviewing your radiographs, digital images, and digital scans, I can customize your treatment plan. I'll discuss the type of implants you need, how many you need, and how long the process will take. The entire procedure will be explained to you.
  3. Surgery and Placement: The procedure is guided to ensure that when we perform the surgery, everything is prepared, making the process quick and easy. After a thorough exam and review of your radiographs, we determine the ideal placement, length, and size of the implant. The process is guided to ensure the implant is positioned correctly for restoration. We also determine if bone grafting or a membrane is needed. By the time you come for your surgery appointment, we focus solely on placing the implant, guided by prior planning. At All Smiles by Design the procedure is relatively simple and can be completed in a single office visit. First, the dentist will numb the area around the implant site. Next, a small hole will be drilled into the jawbone to accommodate the implant. Once the dental implant is in place, a metal abutment will be attached to it.
  4. Healing and Restoration: The implant is placed in the jawbone and remains there for about four to six months. After this period, we check if it's ready to be restored. When ready, we place the second piece, called an abutment, screw it in, scan the arch, and send the file to the lab. The lab makes a porcelain crown that is either screwed in or cemented. Finally, a dental crown will be placed over the abutment, completing the procedure.

All steps are handled in-house, streamlining the process for your convenience. In my office, I handle the entire process of placing dental implants. We conduct a comprehensive exam with radiographs and plan your case before the surgery date. Once the surgery is complete, I also restore the crown or prosthesis that goes on top of your dental implants.

Types of Dental Implants

  • Single Tooth Replacement: Ideal for one or a few missing teeth.
  • Full Mouth Implants: For those missing all or most of their teeth, we can provide a permanent, full-mouth restoration using six implants per arch.

Full-mouth implants are a game-changer, offering the comfort, appearance, and function of natural teeth without the hassles of dentures.

Why Dental Implants?

  • Functionality: Enjoy eating, speaking, and smiling with ease.
  • Aesthetics: Achieve a radiant, natural-looking smile.
  • Longevity: Implants are durable and can last a lifetime with proper care. Dental implants are durable and long-lasting, making them an excellent choice for patients looking for a permanent solution to their tooth loss. If you take care of your dental implants, they can last as long as natural teeth. This depends on maintaining cleanliness and attending regular checkups and cleanings to catch potential issues like bone loss around the implant. Dental implants cannot get cavities, but they can experience bone loss if bacteria are present.
  • Bone Health: Prevent bone loss and maintain facial structure.
  • Confidence: Smile freely and live life to the fullest.

Dental Implants vs. Other Options

Dentures

  • Can slip, causing discomfort and difficulty chewing.
  • May require adhesives and impact taste.
  • Do not prevent bone loss.

Dental Bridges

  • Can trap bacteria, leading to damage of adjacent healthy teeth.
  • Require periodic replacement and lack the natural look of implants.

Dental implants surpass these options, offering a permanent, low-maintenance solution that functions like real teeth.

Are Dental Implants Right for You?

Not everyone is an immediate candidate for dental implants, but our team will guide you every step of the way. With our advanced 3D scanning and expert care, we'll assess your needs and recommend the best treatment plan.

Who Are Good Candidates for Dental Implants?

When most people think of dental implants, they envision an elderly person with missing teeth. While it's true that implants are a great solution for seniors who have lost teeth, they are also suitable for a wide range of other patients. Anyone who has lost one or more teeth due to injury, disease, or wear and tear can be a candidate for implants. The key to successful implant surgery is having enough bone density in the jaw to support the implant.

It's important to note that dental implants are not suitable for everyone. Individuals with uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smokers may not be candidates because the tissue won't heal properly if diabetes is not controlled, and smoking can prevent the implant from integrating.

If affordability is a concern, we'll work with you to explore payment options or alternative solutions tailored to your needs.

Are Dental Implants Safe?

There's no doubt that dental implants are one of the most popular methods of tooth replacement. But are they safe? There's no need to worry, dental implants are one of the safest procedures available. The success rate is over 98%, and the complications that can occur are usually minor and easily treatable. In addition, dental implants in Henderson are made from biocompatible materials, so there's no risk of rejection or allergic reaction. With proper care, your implants will last for many years to come. So if you're considering dental implants, you can rest assured that they are a safe and effective option.
