About Veneers

Veneers are, in their simplest description, covers that go over the front of teeth. They are made of a variety of components that can cover the front of the tooth that is discolored, worn down, chipped, or damaged and are easily applied, meaning that there is no surgery required to implant them in the teeth. After getting veneers, you will have a covering that look and act like the actual tooth that lies beneath it, helping you improve your confidence by returning your beautiful smile.

The most difficult part about getting veneers is the need to return to the dentist multiple times, with three trips usually required. In the first, the dentist will examine your teeth and suggest that veneers may be right for you for your particular teeth. This requires that you let them know that you would like to find a way to fix the problematic teeth. They will then make a plan on which teeth need the veneers, when they can be applied, and any limitations that may present themselves.

Next, the dentist will remove enamel from the tooth (only about half a millimeter, so not that much), equal to the thickness of the veneer. An impression will be made of the tooth and sent off to a laboratory, who will construct the veneer according to the exact dimensions of your teeth. If the tooth itself is particularly stained or damaged, the dentist may apply a temporary veneer that can be removed later.

Once the permanent veneer comes in from the lab, you will come back to the dentist, who will take the veneer and bond them to the teeth. In this case, the dentist will use a cement-like mixture to permanently stick the veneer on the tooth, using a laser light to dry the veneer in place. The dentist may wish to polish off any excess material to ensure that the tooth is perfectly covered without any overlap.

Once that is done, your veneer will be in place! You should notice that the tooth with the veneer will feel a bit different at first, but you will not notice any difference between it and your other teeth and your beautiful smile will be returned!
